BALLYBOFEY’S Balor Theatre has two great shows lined up over the next few days.
Tomorrow (Thursday) historical entertainer Paddy Cullivan brings his incredibly informative and entertaining The Murder Of Michael Collins to the Balor stage.
Two days later on the Saturday Inishowen band Great White Lies headline monthly original music night The Ghostlight Sessions.
Paddy Cullivan brings the incredible story of the death of Michael Collins – Ireland’s first Commander-in-Chief – to The Balor this Thursday. An audio-visual spectacular featuring hundreds of images, shocking new research and incredible songs, Paddy dares to unravel the secrets and lies around what happened that fateful day in Béal na Bláth, August 22 1922.
Among the revelations explored in this show are: Did Michael Collins have a secret son in London? Was he really going to keep to the Anglo-Irish Treaty or was he planning to resume the war? If the anti-treaty side shot him, why did the Free State instigate a massive cover-up? How can one of the most important men in Irish history have no autopsy report, no investigation, inquest or even a death cert? And who really shot Michael Collins? Why is there such reticence from certain quarters – to this day – to find out the truth?
The Murder Of Michael Collins is the product of years of painstaking research delivered in Paddy’s inimitable humorous yet informative style. Few shows manage to educate while entertaining to such a degree. No less complex or mysterious than the death of JFK and with as many twists and turns, ‘The Murder of Michael Collins’ is a fascinating rollercoaster ride that will change your perceptions of Irish history forever…
Saturday sees the return of The Balor’s acclaimed monthly original music showcase The Ghostlight Sessions. Regularly featuring the cream of Irish emerging musical talent, March’s Ghostlight is no exception. Headlining Saturday’s gig are Inishowen based trio Great White Lies. Fronted by Siobhan Shiels their jazzy, dark funky soul sound has won them many admirers – their 2019 debut album Chrysalis listed in Golden Plec’s top 20 Irish albums of the year.
Joining them on the bill is Scottish/Irish artist Nik Pollock who Donegal music aficionados will recall from his time as lead singer with the very successful Mojo Gogo whose star shone very brightly a number of years ago. Post-Mojo Gogo Nik has continued releasing music as a solo artist to considerable acclaim.
Rounding out the bill is Adam Dolan who has played live venues across the north west including Buncrana Music Festival and who has supported the likes of Smokie and Nathan Carter. A nominee for the Northern Ireland Music Prize Awards in 2021, he has a debut album in the works due for release later this year.
Paddy Cullivan’s The Murder Of Michael Collins comes to The Balor tomorrow at 8pm. Tickets are €15. The Ghostlight Sessions featuring Great White Lies, Nik Pollock and Adam Dolan is on Saturday, tickets €15. Tickets for both shows are available from The Balor Box Office 0749131840 and online at www.balorartscentre.com
