End of an era as leading Donegal businessman announces plans to retire

CORMAC Meehan, owner of Meehan Travel Worldchoice and Sean Meehan Chartered Valuation Surveyors, Bundoran, has announced that he will retire at the end of August.

His retirement will see the closure of these businesses after 75 years of successful trading and service to the public in the north west.

Cormac has been at the helm of these businesses since January 1987 following the death of his father, Sean Meehan, who started the business in 1950.

Making the announcement, Cormac paid tribute to his front line team of Kathleen McDaid, Fiona Feely and Caroline McNamara who with their predecessors have been vital to the success of the businesses over the years.

During his tenure Cormac held the Presidency of the Irish Travel Agents Association and the Irish Auctioneers and Valuers Institute.  He has also been active in many local and national voluntary groups.

Cormac will continue to act as a National Property Arbitrator for the Land Values Reference Committee of the High Court.

Commenting on his retirement, Cormac made particular mention of the customers who supported both businesses over the decades.  “We have always enjoyed a very special relationship with our customers, our suppliers and, indeed, our statutory regulators such as the Irish Aviation Authority and the Property Services Regulatory Authority.

“Travel bookings with existing customers will continue without interruption and future bookings will be referred to our travel agency colleagues, Mullaney Travel Worldchoice in Sligo and Atlantic Travel Worldchoice in Letterkenny,” said Cormac.

Finally Cormac thanked his wife Maureen for her support over the years.  “She is a powerhouse of support and has enjoyed sharing this adventure with me. We are both looking forward to the next chapter of our lives.”
