IRISH Water has confirmed that timeline for the Letterkenny water and wastewater improvement works has been extended due to the recent Covid-19 lockdown.
The improvement works which are being carried out in partnership with Donegal County Council are expected to be completed by November.
A spokesperson for Irish Water said that works were stopped for six weeks as a result of the Covid-19 lockdown.
“This delay has impacted time lines for finishing the works,” the spokesperson said.
At present, 240 metres of sewer are being replaced on the Joe Bonnar Road, which will be completed by November. However, these works are not impacting on traffic in the Letterkenny town.
Elsewhere, permanent reinstatement works will soon commence on Circular Road and Glencar Road, and will be managed by traffic lights. The works are expected to be finished by the end of September. Further details will be issued in the coming weeks. There will also be minor works on a manhole adjacent to Oldtown Bridge.
Traffic management cones and signs are currently in place on the N13 Letterkenny between Veagh and Dry Arch roundabouts in order to test the new water trunk main. Two-way traffic continues to be maintained at all times.
“Works to reinstate the permanent road surface between Veagh and Manor roundabouts will be carried out in September and October, as well as 200 metres of road surface at Carnamuggagh.
“The final commissioning of the pumping stations and water mains will be carried out in October and early November,” the spokesperson for Irish Water said.
