Encouraging results from Donegal gold prospecting

gold31-1

THE COMPANY which is currently prospecting in Donegal has announced “encouraging” results for the second phase of a gold-exploration programme in Inishowen.
The directors of Connemara Mining provided an update on their activities this week and said that the second phase of exploration involved a soil sampling programme over 700 sq. metres of ground. This encompassed the area which contained most of the boulders containing high gold grades found in the earlier exploration programme. Soil samples were spaced 20 metres apart in an attempt to identify a subsurface source of the gold bearing rocks.

The company have said results of the exploration are encouraging with grades up to 0.46 g/t and the identification of a defined area for trenching which will be the focus of the next programme.

Mr John Teeling, chairman of Connemara Mining commented: “We continue to make progress on this five licence block in Donegal. It is very early days in what could be a long exploration programme but the indicators continue to remain positive. The next stage, the plans for which are being drafted, will involve trenching to identify the nature of the gold bearing ore. Phase 3 will commence later in 2015.”

In April, Connemara Mining acquired five new prospecting licences for Donegal covering 187 sq km on the Inishowen peninsula.
According to the company, it is considered by geologists to be prospective for high grade gold mineralisation and the potential for base metal deposits, with Tellus Survey data confirming the presence of elevated gold in the area. The area also includes the former Glentougher Lead Silver mine.
