Empowering the next generation at inaugural Youth Day event

THE North West Young St Vincent de Paul Programme hosted its first-ever Youth Day at the Clanree Hotel in Letterkenny recently, welcoming 78 students from six post-primary schools across the region.
The schools involved included Abbey Vocational School, Donegal Town, Deele College, Raphoe, Finn Valley College, Stranorlar, Moville Community College, Mulroy College, Milford and St. Eunan’s College, Letterkenny.

The day opened with a reflection by Convoy Area President Darina Friel and the event was hosted by Highland Radio’s Lee Gooch.

Students showcased their projects and talents developed through the Young SVP Programme, including musical performances by Kacper Miraszewski (St. Eunan’s), Caoimhe McArdle McGlynn (Mulroy), and a traditional music session by Abbey Vocational School.

Inspiring talks were delivered by SVP leaders including National President, Rose McGowan, North West Regional President, Mairead McGurran, SVP member Rosa Glacken, and SVP National Retail Development Manager, Dermot McGilloway.

Julie Barr, Youth Development Officer, said: “The day was a celebration of youth-led social action and community engagement. It was fantastic to see the students come together, share their work, and be inspired by one another.”
The event received glowing feedback for its inclusive, uplifting atmosphere and strong sense of community.
