The New Year comes with many new intentions and the words New Year’s resolutions will be thrown about a lot this week. Many of us will make an effort to eat healthier, maybe stop smoking or start saving money. Some of these intentions will be short-lived, while some of them will really make a difference to your life.
One of the most common vows women will make this January will be to get fit and lose weight. In recent years, there has been a huge increase in the number of people taking part in activities in order to become healthier and shed those extra pounds. The beginning of the New Year is the perfect time for any woman to set a goal of becoming fitter and healthier.
By introducing a few hours of exercise into your routine every week this year will help make you feel happier and could transform your life. One woman who is no stranger to watching woman transform their lives through exercise is Lisa McDevitt (Pictured below). She runs Lisa Dee Fitness in Letterkenny and conducts women-only bootcamps and online bootcamps.
Her dream began when she updated her Facebook status about being interested in running a woman only bootcamp and the rest is history.
Lisa turned her passion into a business and is helping women stick to those New Year’s resolutions all year round.
“The bootcamps I started in my gym in 2014 were proving to be extremely popular locally, growing each month and never losing momentum. I watch girls transform in front of my eyes. I don’t just mean their physical transformations, I mean the mindset transformation.
“It’s so amazing to hear girls tell me how much more confident they feel with themselves within a few weeks of starting. I’m here to show them they are stronger than they could ever imagine and then they go and prove it to themselves. That feeling never ever gets old.” said Lisa.
The fitness scene has become increasingly popular with a lot more women taking part in bootcamps similar to Lisa’s, competing in 5ks, playing sports or hitting the gym regularly. As we all know the benefits that come from being physically active are numerous. Exercise improves general health, mental health and helps build and increase confidence.
“Women see the results their friends are getting through living healthier lives and they want in on the action too! Once you realise that you have the choice to live healthier through better food choices as well as exercise, it becomes an obvious solution to many problems as not only is obesity on the rise but so is depression, suicide and general mental health problems. Your doctor is first and foremost going to tell you to exercise. I feel amazing when I exercise, that’s what I love teaching others, that amazing feeling of strength.” said Lisa.
Including exercise in your life takes the participant away from the stress of everyday life and allows them to concentrate solely on themselves for a short period of time.
In Donegal there are so many options for anyone who is looking to improve their health, build on their fitness levels or lose weight. There are multiple options for all ages as there are a wide variety of fitness classes, bootcamps and running clubs available throughout the county along with numerous amounts of sports clubs looking for new members all the time.
So, what you waiting for? For 2016, make a resolution and stick to it. Make a resolution that will change your life and improve your happiness and your health, both mentally and physically.
