LETTERKENNY woman Ellen Keogh was remembered for her selfless nature at her requiem Mass last Friday.
Ms Keogh, of Currarevagh, Gortlee, passed away at St Eunan’s Nursing Home in Letterkenny on Tuesday, April 29.
Requiem Mass took place in the Church of the Irish Martyrs on Friday, May 2.
Growing up in Dublin, Ms Keogh worked as a shop floor manager in a button factory after she finished school.
Meeting her husband Patrick at a dance, the pair married in 1956. They were together 68 years, up until her sad passing last week.
Addressing the congregation at Mass, Ms Keogh’s son Kenneth lovingly recalled cherished memories of his mother.
“Growing up, we always knew we could count on her,” he said.
“She was there for every skinned knee, every broken heart, every triumph and every setback.
“Her arms were always open for a hug and her ears were always ready to listen.
“Her heart was always full of love and understanding.
“Even when times were hard, she made sure she could always give something to people less fortunate than herself.”
In her final years, even as her body was failing, Kenneth said his mother’s spirit remained strong.
“She faced her illness with grace and courage and was always more concerned about others than herself,” he said.
“Your strength during your illness was inspiring.
“We promise to keep your memory alive, to live by the values you taught us and to love as strongly and as unconditionally as you loved us.”
Following Mass, cremation took place at Lakelands Crematorium, Co Cavan.
Ms Keogh is sadly missed by her husband Patrick, sons Alan, Gary, Derek and Kenneth and grandchildren Rebecca and Candice.
