ELECTION 2024: Tallies predicting that Martin Scanlon will top the poll in Lifford-Stranorlar

The performances of Martin Scanlon and Niall McConnell were the big talking points when the tally figures were weighed up from Lifford-Stranorlar MD.

Scanlon looks like topping the poll with the tallies predicting the Independent candidate to poll 1,387, just around 200 short of the predicted quota of 1,582.

Niall O’Connell meanwhile polled 856 first preference votes, according to the tallies.

Again, transfers are going to be key when counting starts in the Finn Valley Centre in Stranorlar on Sunday morning.

Charles Ward, a 100% Redress party candidate picked up 860 votes and can’t be ruled out of the running just yet.

Martin Harley (1,200), Frank McBrearty (1,188), Gary Doherty (1,151) and Patrick McGowan (1,125) will all be happy. Long standing councillor Gerry Crawford (FF) is on 984 votes and will need to transfer well if he’s to return to Lifford.

These tally figures were presented at around 8pm with one box still to be opened.
