ELECTION 2024:  McClafferty polls well in Glenties; Carr expected to take a seat

Five years after just missing out on election, Sinn Fein’s Brian Carr looks like taking a seat in the Glenties MD.

The tally figures have the Glenties man sitting on 1,003 first preference votes, while his party colleague John Sheamais O Fearraigh is close behind on 968.

They could well take two of the six seats up for grabs in this municipal district where there will be changes as another Sinn Féin member, Marie Therese Gallagher is not seeking re-election.

The quota is predicted to be 1,867 and both Míchael  Choilm MacGiolla Easbuig (2,111) and Independent Michael McClafferty (1,902) expected to be elected on the first count. McClafferty’s performance has been hugely impressive. He has polled almost 900 more votes than in 2019 when he ran as a Fine Gael candidate.

Cllr Anthony Molloy (1,400) has also polled well with 100% Redress party candidate Denis McGee securing 876 votes.
