Ecumenical Prayer Service in Falcarragh

The theme for this year is: Living Heritage, which is defined as the practices, knowledge and skills that have been passed down from one generation to the next, and are still in use today.

In keeping with the continued tradition the History and Folklore Committee of Cloughaneely will have an Ecumenical Prayer Service at the ancient Church of Tullaghobegley.

The service will be held on Sunday, August 20 at 3pm.

The ancient church which is about 2 kilometers from Falcarragh is associated with St. Begley a local saint who established a church here in the 6th century and has continued as a place of worship until 1834.

It also served as place of worship, not only for the Parish of Cloughaneely, but also for the neighbouring parishes of Gweedore and the Rosses.

At the Prayer Service the former County Corner John Cannon will give a talk at the ancient site about the historic importance of the place.
