The festival’s line-up features 100 events including over 300 artists from across the globe during 19 magical Donegal days and nights. Included in this are three funfilled weekends across the county, from Aranmore Island, Letterkenny, to the island’s most northerly village, Malin.

The Donegal International Folk and Roots Weekend, presented by Earagail Arts Festival and the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny, returns with some of the finest national and international guests this July.

Celebrating its fifth anniversary, it is a celebration of folk, roots and traditional music from around the world, with several free and family friendly events including the festival’s flagship event for 2019.

Presented in collaboration with Jodhpur RIFF Citadels of the Sun at Regional Cultural Centre on Saturday, July 13 (1pm) is a new two-part creative collaboration sharing common themes and stories that unite Irish and Indian culture through music. The concert will be followed by The Music and Culture Of Rajasthan, a presentation by Divya Bhatia, Director of Jodhpur Rajasthan International Folk Festival at 4pm.

Later that night (10.30pm) the second instalment of Citadels of The Sun, landscape theatre company LUXE will celebrate connecting Donegal and Rajasthan – a world apart, yet bound by symbolic significance – with a free illuminated musical adventure on Letterkenny’s Main Street.

One of the hot tips of this year’s Donegal International Folk & Roots Weekend is Moonlight Benjamin at Regional Cultural Centre on Saturday, July 13 (8pm). Moonlight Benjamin creates a powerful and original fusion between Caribbean voodoo and ‘70s US Blues Rock.

Between her powerful and rebellious voice and the tension of saturated guitars, her music delivers voodoo trance in a new and explosive style.

Joan Wasser is an American musician, singer-songwriter and producer. She began her career playing violin with the Dambuilders and played with Black Beetle, along with Antony and the Johnsons. Since 2004 she has released her solo material as Joan As Police Woman and on May 24 released her new triple album compilation, ‘Joanthology’. She plays An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny on Sunday, July 14 (8pm).

If you would like to spend two days on one of the most scenic islands of Ireland, Mór Music and Arts Trail (Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21) will give you the excuse you need to visit Aranmore Island, off the coast of West Donegal.

Featuring brand new shows by last year’s sold out Tumblecircus, Cikadia and Nakupelle’s Circus Bardo, alongside a hugely entertaining live version of Countdown and the interactive Carnival Dress Up Box, the Wild Atlantic Weekend celebrates the finest in contemporary Irish and international streets arts and circus. The annual event takes place in the island’s most northerly village on the Wild Atlantic Way, on Malin’s Village Green, on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28 and is a perfect day out for all the family.
