EARAGAIL Arts Festival is pleased to launch its fantastic FREE 18-day digital line-up for Donegal’s premier summer event’s original dates tonight (Thursday), 2nd July.
While it does not replace welcoming visitors from all over the world to its beautiful home county in person, Earagail Arts Festival’s Srutháin (Small Streams) programme, 9th to 26th July, will showcase Donegal on a global scale and bring people together worldwide.
Highlights include new and commissioned works across spoken word, music, circus and dance with artists and companies such as Ryan Vail & Elma Orkestra, Ériu Dance Company led by Breandán de Gallaí, Tumble Circus, Iarla Ó Lionáird & Steve Cooney, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh (Altan) and her family group, Na Mooneys, The Henry Girls, Christy Keeney, Ian Gordon, Dermot Bolger, Joshua Burnside and much more.
Having continued to work with its production partners behind the scenes, the festival is also delighted to reveal that one well-known Irish performer will be entertaining people in person during this year’s line-up.
Little John Nee will be doing a pop-up tour and will close the festival with its only live, socially-distanced open air theatre event in the grounds of Rathmullan House.
Earagail Arts Festival in association with An Grianán Theatre has commissioned the popular performer to take a tour of seven Donegal villages and towns (Malin, Culdaff, Raphoe, Letterkenny, Dunfanaghy, Gort an Choirce) for a series of pop-up solo performances from Tuesday 21st July to Saturday 25th July.
The lockdown allowed us all time to contemplate what was really important to us while at the same time putting a stop to any rambling.
For Little John Nee rambling is as important as anything and the hankering was growing stronger every day of the lockdown.
So it is with a skittish exuberance beneath ’The Tilt of The Sky’ he takes the long road from Malin to Rathmullan House, creating fresh adventure along the way through song, story and throwing shapes on this pop-up tour.
In Rathmullan, on Sunday, 26th July, for the finale of the six-day adventure and the festival, Little John will perform for the first time ’Blues Boy on Batt’s Walk’, a musical spoken word climax to an evening of song and story that conjures a teenage Don Quixote camping at Kinnegar 1976 that opens with the line …’I was sixteen now I’m sixty’.
