A MAN who has been paying off installments in compensation after he stole a caravan in Falcarragh six years ago has lodged another €500 in court.
Stephen Ward, with an address at Main Street, Ballybay, County Monaghan, was charged with stealing the vehicle, the property of George Gilmore of Ballyness, on September 7, 2019.
Deploying CCTV footage, Gardaí were able to trace the stolen caravan along a 160km route to Castleblaney in County Monaghan. The 27 foot long vehicle was valued at €9,200 and when Gardaí seized it there was €4,471 worth of damage caused or property missing.The defendant has been paying in various sums as part of compensation since the theft.
At Monday’s sitting of Letterkenny District Court, he furnished another €500 to the owner of the caravan. It leaves a balance of just under €2,500 still to be paid. Judge Ciaran Liddy adjourned the case to January 2026 to enable another payment to be made.
