THE value of grants paid out to applicants under the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant Scheme in Donegal now stands at €5.4 million, according to figures just released.

A total of 1,020 applications have been received and 737 have been finalised. Of these 710 have been approved, while 27 were deemed to be not eligible.

The number of projects undergoing a first technical inspection or awaiting information from applicants was around 225 at the end of last month.

A further 59 applications were subsequently withdrawn.

The scheme was launched back in April 2023 with a target of works being undertaken in 350 properties.

This target was achieved, and it was also met in 2024 with works being “activated” on 300 properties and six cases of compulsory purchase orders are at varying stages of completion.

The target for 2025 has not yet been confirmed.

Meanwhile, there are 18 properties on the Derelict Sites Register in Donegal.
