THE €4.6 million Rathmullan Pier Refurbishment Project that began in April is expected to be completed in January 2025.
Confirming the completion date during a visit to Rathmullan Pier at the weekend, Donegal minister, Charlie McConalogue said: “As Minister for Marine, I was delighted to be able to secure over €4 million to ensure that this project, which was on the agenda for over 30 years, could finally get to the construction stage. It is now nearing completion with works expected to finish over the next couple of months.”
“Upgrading local piers and harbours was a key priority for me when I was appointed minister in 2020, and I am glad to see the progress that has been made since the works began seven months ago. This significant investment will allow Rathmullan to realise and enjoy its true potential,” the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine added.
“I want to thank Cllr Liam Blaney and Cllr Pauric McGarvey for their work at county council level in terms of putting the project on the table. Thanks also to the construction team for the great work they’ve done since April. They have worked so well with the local community, and I’m delighted to see the progress of the project within a good timeline.
“I’ve worked hard as Minister for Marine to bring unprecedented funding to Donegal piers and harbours. Around 55 per cent of the total national spend over the last four years nationally has come to Donegal. €1.5 million of that national funding was invested in Portsalon Pier which was officially opened in September,” Minister McConalogue commented.
“This is work I want to continue with. I am putting my platform to the public on Friday, November 29th and am asking for their support in the general election so that I can continue to work to bring our county forward and that we can have a minister in Donegal to secure further investment,” he added.
