€4.5m allocated for active travel schemes in Donegal

FUNDING of €4.5 million has been allocated for 24 active travel schemes in Donegal which will provide walking and cycling infrastructure across the county.

Among the projects set to receive funding in 2024 include an active travel scheme for the Kilmacrennan Road in Letterkenny which has been granted €665,000.
Convent Road in Letterkenny has received funding of €282,900 for walking and cycling infrastructure while €175,000 has been allocated for a footpath in Newtowncunningham.

€650,000 has been allocated for a one way active travel scheme in Donegal Town and €600,000 has been granted for an active travel cycle scheme from Ballyshannon to Bundoran.

Several schools have received funding for active travel infrastructure including St Johnston NS (€300,000), Ramelton NS (€150,000), St Eunans NS Raphoe (€50,000), Creeslough National School & Scoil Mhuire (€50,000) and Newtowncunnigham NS (€60,000).

Meanwhile €80,000 has been allocated for active travel projects in Raphoe and Convoy, €100,000 for projects in Milford and €50,000 for new footpaths at Dore, Bunbeg.

The N15 Lifford Cycleway has been given €457,100 under the announcement and the Twin Towns Old Railway Line Cycleway has been allocated €5,000.

The funding forms part of a €290m pot announced by The Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan TD, Minister of State Jack Chambers and National Transport Authority (NTA) Deputy CEO Hugh Creegan today.
