OVER €35 million in funding has been announced for projects in Donegal under the HSE’s capital plan for 2026.
The big ticket project is the replacement and extension of a 110 bed Community Nursing Unit and Medical Rehab centre in Letterkenny which has been allocated €20 million.
The funding will also see investment in the expansion of the Renal Dialysis Unit and an extension to the Donegal Hospice that will provide bedrooms with family/visitor accommodation.
The plan approved by Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD today is part of a €1.3 billion allocation nationally for the development and enhancement of healthcare infrastructure.
Donegal Senator Nikki Bradley said, “The investments set out in the 2026 HSE Capital plan shows our commitment to improve Donegal’s health service facilities and ensure better access to care for our patients. Investing in our health service is important as our population grows, with many people living longer, healthier lives.
“Today’s announcement, including a 20 million euro investment for the Replacement and Extension of a Community Nursing Unit (110 beds) and Medical Rehab centre in Letterkenny, is welcome news that will help bring healthcare services closer to home and better meet the needs of patients and families in our community.”
“I am pleased to see the cross-party advocacy by Donegal’s TD’s and Senators has been reflected in the funding plan for Donegal. Securing funding for a Letterkenny Surgical Hub will transform healthcare access across the County and improve outcomes immensely,” said Senator Bradley.
Commenting on the publication of the HSE Capital Plan, Minister Carroll MacNeill said:
“I’m pleased to approve the publication of the HSE Capital Plan for 2026. By increasing capacity and developing the necessary infrastructure we will enable greater provision of care in our hospitals and in our communities, we are advancing the Sláintecare vision to provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time.”
