During the same period, Donegal County Council issued 8,102 parking fines, which will result in the payment of €401,992 when paid.

The information obtained from the local authority also revealed that, during the first 10 months of 2023, some 1,568 parking fines issued in Donegal went unpaid, with around €177,000 outstanding.

According to Donegal County Council, the local authority fines people between €40 and €80 for a range of parking offences; €60 for failure to display a correct tax disc; and €150 for parking in a disabled parking bay.

However, if these fines are not paid within 28 days of being issued, the amounts increase by 50% for the next 28 day period.

Meanwhile, separate information obtained from Donegal County Council revealed the local authority issued 33 fines for litter offences in the first 10 months of 2023, with €3,450 paid in fines to the local authority during that time.

Leaving or throwing litter in a public place is an offence. People can get an on-the-spot fine of €150, or a maximum fine of €4,000 if convicted in the District Court.

Local authority litter wardens and the gardaí can issue on-the-spot fines.
