The €10,000 fund will be evenly divided between 10 worthy winners, with each winning teacher receiving €500 to cover their own costs and the remaining €500 to go towards the charity, school or organisation they are each teaching with overseas.

Last year’s winners were able to assist and spread the right of education with their additional funding in areas such as India, Cambodia, Tanzania, Uganda, Peru, Malawi and Kenya.

Speaking about the Folens Overseas Teaching Fund one of last year’s winners Angela Griffin from Presentations NS, Terenure Dublin said, “Last summer I volunteered with Global Schoolroom to a village in North East Assam in India. The funding from Folens helped very much in the running of this courses and enabled teachers to attend the courses, to be fed and in many cases, to receive accommodation. Global Schoolroom is of course entirely voluntary so any sponsorship was very welcome. I very much appreciate Folens involvement and continued support of teachers who spend their summers working in third world countries as part of volunteer programmes.”

To apply for this programme and be in with a chance to win €1,000 to support your charitable trip, all you have to do is log on to folens.ie/fotf and fill in the form. Remember, to be eligible you must be:
§ A qualified Primary or Post-Primary teacher;
§ Signed up to work abroad this summer with a recognised voluntary or charitable educational organisation (proof required).

The closing date for entries is May 29th 2015, and winners will be contacted by June 19th

Suzy O’ Keefe, Senior Marketing Manager at Folens, said; “This year marks the 2nd year of the Folens Overseas Teaching Fund. To date Folens have donated over €10,000 to Irish teachers doing superb work in overseas schools in developing countries. Education is always at the forefront at Folens whether in Ireland or further afield and we look forward to being able to assist and support the next 10 successful teachers who are on a mission to help spread the benefit of education overseas this summer.”
