DONEGAL could be poised to cash in on more than €1.2 million in state funding as part of a major nationwide project to develop upland areas, lakes, rivers, beaches, blueways, walking trails and forest walks.
In the coming weeks Donegal County Council will be seeking “expressions of interest” and also asking local councillors for their input and suggestions.
The Outdoor Recreation and Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) will focus on activities such as walking, hiking, cycling, swimming, kayaking, sailing, paragliding and kite-surfing.
The council has confirmed that up to six projects in Donegal can be submitted by the local authority for measure one funding of up to €40,000 each.
Three projects can be submitted under measure two, with funding of up to €250,000.
One project, eligible for funding up to €500,000, will also be put forward by the council, subject to meeting the criteria. In all cases, the grants will be at a 90 per cent rate of aid.
The council has confirmed that the closing date for measure one applications will be February 14, 2025 and for measure two and three the last date for applications will be March 28, 2025.
