DUNLEWEY Celtic are chasing history this Saturday as they look to defeat Raphoe Town and land their first ever league crown.
It’s been quite a story for Dunlewey, who joined the Donegal Junior League in 1973, and once lost a game 22-0 to Kildrum Tigers.
There have been good days before such as winning back-to-back promotion in the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons, while they also won the Gweedore Area of the Sportsman Cup in 1989/90.
Two years ago, Dunlewey opted not to enter a team in the Donegal League, and while they made their return last season, it was an underwhelming campaign.
However, their fortunes have been transformed under Hughie Cannon this season, and they are hoping to bring a league title back to Glentornan Park for the very first time on Saturday.
“We have never won a league title before,” said Cannon.
“We won promotion a couple of times when we played in the Sunday League, and got up to the Premier Division, but we didn’t have the squad to stay up.
“It would be nice to get our first this week, and make a bit of history.”
