THE RCS Sports Centre is hosting its very first Christmas village and panto at the Dungloe centre this festive season.
The main attraction will be the pantomime, directed by the talented actor Cathleen Bradley, or Catie B as she is also commonly known. Show dates for the panto are December 7, 8, 14 and 15 at 4.30pm.

The show is called Twice upon a Time (in Dungloe) and tells a parallel story of the First Christmas, with Jack and Martha desperately seeking a roof of their heads, in Dungloe, prior to the arrival of their baby son, and heir to the throne, Josh.

Along the way we meet a multitude of characters from Sugar Plum Fairy, Fairy Liquid and Disco Fairy to Mystic Meg (or Septic Peg) and the six Wise Men and the three farmers (and their nagging wives) to create a fun-filled adventure for their trip to Dungloe.

The panto is being performed by Transition Year students and they have had a great few weeks working with Catie B, ably assisted by her colleague James Laune (Balor DCA) and the school’s own Suzanne Gallagher.
“This is the beginning of a project that we hope to expand over the coming years to create one of the most magical Christmas experiences available for children in the North West.

“We have to say a huge thank you to Andrew McNulty, Co-ordinator Balor Developmental Community Arts (DCA), and all at the Balor Theatre for their help in getting the production together, and creating an unforgettable experience for the children in the Rosses Community School,” said one of the organisers, Ronan Brennan.
For the comfort of children and adults alike, numbers for this event will be restricted, with entry only available with advance purchase of tickets.

Christmas Village
The Christmas Village will also feature a seasonal market and local shops and arts and craft-makers will have stalls.
Children’s events include Santa’s Post office, The wonderful storyteller, Polly Scallywag, face-painting, arts and crafts and much more, all made more magical by the groups of Live Carol singers creating a real Christmas ambience in the Market area.

Santa’s video link
The organisers wrote to Santa in the hope that he could attend but he is so busy at this time of year he is unable to attend the event. However, he has agreed to do a live video call to have a quick chat with the children which we will show on a big screen.

Tonight (Friday), November 29, the centre’s Christmas CD will be launched and there will also be a Christmas Variety Show happening in the Christmas Village on Friday December 13 at 6:30pm. Final auditions for this are happening next week so it’s a busy time in the Rosses as they prepare for a series of Christmas events for all the family.

Tickets for all performances available at Books & Charts, Main Street, Dungloe (Tel: 074 95 22077) and from the School Office (Tel: 074 95 21122). For more information on all the events search for RCS Sports Centre on Facebook.
