NORTH WEST MEP Pat the Cope Gallagher has confirmed that five beds at Dungloe Community Hospital will be re-opened commencing next Monday.

After a public meeting in Dungloe, a deputation selected at the Public Meeting met with the HSE management when a strong case was made to re-open the beds.

The deputation consisted of Fr. Matt McInenary, Local Cllrs David Alcorn, Marie Therese Gallagher, Charlie Yank Boyle, Pat Glackin, Frank Campbell and Pat Nora Gallagher and MEP Pat the Cope.

Subsequent to this, discussions between the management and the unions took place and resulted in a positive outcome in relation to staff recruitment.

The reduction in beds from 35 to 25 was necessary to comply with staff patent ratio guidelines as laid down by HIQA. The delegation’s priority is to have all ten beds reopened.

However, this requires the Health Minister to relax the embargo on recruitment.
Minister Reilly has agreed in principle to a meeting and Minister McGinley has confirmed that he will arrange the meeting at an early date.
