THE man from Dunfanaghy who died after an accident on a fishing vessel yesterday afternoon has been named as Bill McKinley.
He was fishing for crabs 1.7miles north of Horn Head when the accident happened around 3pm.
The Rescue 118 helicopter was tasked from Sligo and lifeboat crews from Arranmore and Lough Swilly rushed to the scene along with the Mulroy Coastguard and a local fishing trawler.
Both the Lough Swilly Shannon lifeboat at the Arranmore Lifeboat were launched just after 3pm. The Arranmore Lifeboat turned back at Bloody Foreland after the casualty had been plucked from the sea.
He was airlifted to Letterkenny General Hospital but pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Rev David McDonnell, Rector of Holy Trinity Church, Dunfanaghy, described Mr McKinley as a ‘gentle, kind man who lived for the sea’.
