FOLLOWING the release of his latest album Oh Pioneer and a sold out Irish tour earlier in the year, Duke Special has announced a solo tour which will roll in Letterkenny next month.
Having spent a lot of time touring the US with BellX1 earlier this year, Duke Special is now going on his own extensive Irish tour and will visit An Grianán Theatre on Saturday, December 8.
It’s been a long time since The Duke performed a solo stint. On this tour the pioneering performer, writer and entertainer will showcase a selection of hits, rarities and sing-along tunes in his own inimitable style, as well as songs from the new record.
You’ll know Duke Special from his massive radio songs Freewheel and Last Night I Nearly Died. (For the record, Freewheel was recently nominated the second best Northern Irish song of all time at Radio Ulster’s Great Northern Songbook).
His albums have been twice nominated for the Choice Music Prize (2005’s Adventures in Gramophone, 2006’s Songs From The Deep Forest) and he has been nominated three times for a Meteor Music Award.
What you may not be aware of is the vast array of other work he has been up to since his 2008 album, I Never Thought This Day Would Come.
In the past three years, the Duke has put his singular artistic imprint on five albums: Little Revolutions Volume 1 & 2, The Stage, A Book & The Silver Screen (comprising songs from the London National Theatre stage show, Mother Courage And Her Children, The Silent World Of Hector Mann, and the EP, Huckleberry Finn) and Under The Dark Cloth (a record inspired by the works of pioneering American photographers Paul Strand, Edward Steichen and Alfred Stieglitz).
From recording songs for Sesame Street to performing his music with concert orchestras, curating festivals in his hometown and taking on audiences at NYC’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, as well as his myriad of unlogged worldwide adventures, it is clear that Duke Special is a true multi disciplinary artist, merging music, art, literature, film and theatre to entertain audiences across the world.
