Duffy thrilled following Rumble In the Hills triumph

Danny Duffy was thrilled following his victory at the Rumble In The Hills fight card on Saturday night to extend his unbeaten professional record to 3-0.

The Strabane native secured a win over Liverpool native Ricky Starkey at the Aura Leisure Centre on Saturday night courtesy of a points win on the judges scorecard.

Speaking afterwards, Duffy was thrilled with the win to maintain his unbeaten start to professional life.

“I don’t know how to describe it, it’s just unbelievable. It’s just so close to home and the atmosphere whenever I came out, I tried to embrace it and take it on but at that stage I just wanted to get into the ring and get it going.”

“From the very first bell, I think the action just started right away. There was no edging into it, it was just straight into it.”

The Raphoe Boxing Club member confirmed his switch to the professional ranks just shy of a year ago and got his first win last December when he defeated Jake Pollard.

He got the second win under his belt back in June, with a win over Steven Maguire at the Devenish Complex in Belfast.

Although with this fight being so close to home, the Strabane man felt a lot more nervous for his latest fight in comparison to his previous two.

With a large support in attendance at the Letterkenny venue, he’ll be delighted to have gotten over the line.

“It was just something different. I was a lot more nervous building up to this one because at all costs I had to win,I could not lose tonight.”

“I couldn’t lose and then show my face. In my head I thought, ‘I bought a load of tickets for this here, I have to go in and get the win.’”

“As soon as the first bell went, everything just went out the window. You forget that everybody is there, it’s just you and your opponent in the ring. The rest is as everybody says, it was the fight of the night.”

The Raphoe Boxing Club member stated that it’s been an up and down start to life as a professional fighter but he heaped praise on Jason Quigley and his team for organising an event like this for all of the competitors.

“It’s been up and down now. You get dates cancelled, this could’ve been my fourth fight but I had a date cancelled. Then there’s other things and you’re just ticking away in the background.”

“For Jason to bring this show so close to home tonight, it’s a big thanks to him for doing it for me as well as everybody else on the card, it’s just unbelievable.

Duffy secured an Irish Elite title back in 2023 which was a huge achievement for him.

Saturday’s win may not have topped it yet but he hopes to come back in the not too distant future to challenge for a title at the event.

“I was the first one in thirty years to have won an Irish elite so I think I might have to come back here and get a title on the line to top the Irish elite.”

“Maybe in a year if I stay active I can come back and headline for a title.”
