Harps took the lead in the fourth minute when Eddie Dsane sent a brilliant free-kick to the corner of the net.

Drogheda almost drew level when Thomas Byrne hit the crossbar four minutes later, but that was as close as they came in the first half.

Caolan McAleer spurned a great chance to make it 2-0 to Harps when he capitalised on a defensive error from Ciaran McGuigan but he drove his shot straight at Drogs goalkeeper Stephen McGuinness.

Half-time: Drogheda United 0-1 Finn Harps

Both teams had chances to score after the break, before Harps grabbed their second goal in the 75th minute when Danny Morrissey found the net.

Caolan McAleer almost added a third goal, but Harps were more than happy with their night’s work, and they move into eighth position in the league, and are now four points clear of Drogheda.
