Drugs war stepped up

BY C.J.MCGINLEY
THE DONEGAL NEWS has learned that up to €1.5 million worth of synthetic cocaine may have already been shipped through Letterkenny by a northern based criminal gang.

Despite the find in Letterkenny last week of four kilos of synthetic cocaine – commonly known as ‘Miaow Miaow’ or ‘4-MEC’ – worth over €140,000, garda sources have revealed this week they believe up to €1.5million worth had already hit the streets in the north, as it successfully passed by customs and police officers.

Yesterday (Thursday) it was also confirmed security services on both sides of the border have this week stepped up joint intelligence and surveillance operations in an effort to cut drugs supply lines into the county.
