Driver (29) pleads guity to three in car crash

Despite the best efforts of medical staff, they were unable to save the Connolly’s unborn child. Mrs Connolly had been five months pregnant.

McArdle also admitted causing the death of the two passengers who had been in the BMW jeep he was driving – Glen Curtis and Paul Carrol. A third passenger in the jeep survived.

The Connolly’s were driving on the Carrickmacross by-pass on December 27, 2010 when their Seat car was struck in heavy rain by a BMW being driven by McArdle.

At the court, McArdle pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving causing death, with further charges of drunk driving and driving without insurance adjourned. He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a hearing in October.

The community in Fanad were shocked on hearing of the tragic death of Roisin Connolly whose funeral Mass was held in St Mary’s Church Fanavolty where she had been married just eight months before.
She and her unborn child, who she had already named Catherine, were laid to rest there.
