Cloughaneely 0-10 Downings 1-9
A crucial goal against a swirling breeze fourteen minutes into the second half proved to be the decisive score for Downings in this hard hitting and physical encounter at Pairc Naomh Fionnan in Falcarragh on Sunday.
Trailing 0-8 to 0-3 at half time, the home side burst into life at the start of the second half with four superb points from Shaun McGarvey, Darren McGeever and two from the boot of Shaun Maguire to leave just one between these fierce Gaeltacht rivals.
Denis Doohan’s men however were rocked when a cross from Paidin Shields reached Donegal U20 star Paddy McElwee, who slipped the ball neatly under the outrushing goalkeeper Shaun McClafferty.
The goal turned this game on its head and when the final whistle sounded Downings manager Maxi Curran leapt in the air as his side had survived an almighty battle.
