LAST weekend Donegal native man Shane McLaughlin was given a ‘lifeline’ to make the final ten of this year’s The Voice Of Ireland on RTÉ One.

The Downings native overcame a bout of Glandular fever to belt out his version of the Zutones hit Valerie on Sunday night’s show.

Each mentor had two acts battling for the public’s vote to make it to into the final ten and on Kian Egan’s team Shane (28) was up against popular contestant Kelly Mongan.

While Mongan got the higher public vote with her performance of the Elton John song Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word to automatically go through, Shane was left on stage hoping that he would have the highest public vote of the remaining four contestants.

Thankfully, the county was once again behind the Downings man and he snapped up the lifeline beating very stiff competition including Irish music industry veteran Andrew Mann. Tune into this Voice Of Ireland on RTÉ One this Sunday at 6.30pm and vote for Donegal’s Shane McLaughlin.
