Downings ladies dig in to seal Ulster Junior crown

Downings Ladies team are the Ulster Junior Champions after they recorded a tense extra-time win over Warrenpoint in Kildress today.

Lauren McBride was in good form in the first half for Downings, who played with the breeze.

However, they did spurn two good goal chances and should have been further than 0-6 to 0-4 ahead at the break.

Downings got a dream start to the second half as Julie Trearty set up Denise Doherty for a goal.

However, they failed to score again after that in the second half, and Warrenpoint notched 1-2 to force extra-time. Caoimhe Shannon netted their goal.

Downings edged ahead in the first half of extra-time when Shannon McGroddy fired over.

There were no scores in the second half of extra-time as Downings dug in to claim a famous victory.
