GAA followers in Downings have waited a long time to see their team playing All-County League football in Division 1 and team manager Kevin ‘Cookie’ Gallagher says they have 12 cup finals as they look to retain their top flight status.
Downings have made real progress in recent years and won the Division 2 title last season in style with a dramatic late winner against Malin in the league decider.
They are pitting their might against the best the county has to offer this year, and one of the big guns, Kilcar will visit the seaside village this Saturday at 4.30pm.
“It’s great to be back in Division 1.
“We were there back in ’90 and ’91 when I was breaking through but we were relegated in ’91.
