CIARAN Coll has agreed a new deal that will keep him at Finn Harps for another season and, in a further boost for the Ballybofey club, the McGettigan Group will remain as the club’s main sponsor in 2015.
The St Johnston man is just 23 years old, but is one of the most experienced players at the club and 2015 will be his seventh year at Finn Park. Already, he has played 141 times for Harps, scoring twice (both in the 5-2 win over Salthill Devon in 2012).
Coll was vice captain for the past two seasons and having had an indifferent campaign in 2014 the former Heart of Midlothian youth wants to hit form next season.
“I am delighted to have committed to Finn Harps for another year as I think next season could be an exciting time for the club,” Coll said.
“I think it’s well known that I come from a family of Finn Harps supporters so it’s incredible to think I will be approaching my seventh campaign.  I am already focused on getting down to hard work and getting a good pre-season under my belt. My aim is to have my best season to date.”
The left-sided player signed from his native Kildrum Tigers in 2009 and made his debut as a 17-year-old against Kildare County.
Coll becomes the tenth player committed for the new season, following Kevin McHugh, Michael Funston, Keith Cowan, Damien McNulty, Thomas McMonagle, Gareth Harkin, Brian McGroary, Ciaran Gallagher and Tony McNamee.
“Ciaran is a natural footballer who can combine defensive duties with an attacking threat from wide positions,” Harps manager Ollie Horgan said.
“Next year is a big year for both Ciaran and the present squad so with a lot of hard work he has got the ability to help us progress.”
Ahead of an open forum for supporters on Sunday night in Ballybofey’s Villa Rose Hotel, Harps have been further boosted with the confirmation that the McGettigan’s Group is to be the club’s main sponsor again for next year.
The Dubai-based company is owned by Donegal man Jim McGettigan, a former Donegal Person of the Year, and they linked up with Harps for 2014, a season that saw the club get significant media exposure during the run to the FAI Cup semi-finals. McGettigan’s recently celebrated the first birthday of their restaurant and bar at the Clanree Hotel in Letterkenny.
“We are delighted that McGettigan’s have decided to come on board again and continue their support of senior football in Donegal,” said Sean Quinn, the acting chairman of Finn Harps.”
McGettigan’s have been happy with the partnership during Harps’ 60th anniversary year.
“We are delighted to continue as main sponsor of Finn Harps FC for the 2015 season,” McGettigan Group CEO Dennis McGettigan said.
“We look forward to another exciting year ahead and wish the club every success throughout the upcoming season.”
One man who won’t be at Finn Park next season is striker Sean McCarron, who has confirmed that he will link up with Irish League champions Cliftonville in January. McCarron didn’t hit the high notes at Harps in 2014 and has now joined Tommy Breslin’s Cliftonville, who are in third place, three points off the top, in the Irish League. 23-year-old McCarron was out of contract so will make the move to Solitude on a free transfer.
