GARDAÍ in Letterkenny are urging anyone in need of support over the festive season not to suffer in silence and reach out to them.
While Christmas time is a happy time for the majority of people, it can also be a challenging time for others because of grief, financial worries, domestic abuse, loneliness and various other reasons.
A garda spokesperson said support services are in place for anyone who is in need.
“If anyone needs support over the festive season we urge them to reach out. Contact a support service or call us on any of our 24/7 numbers and we will offer a listening ear and/or put them in touch with a support service who will help. Please don’t suffer in silence.”
Gardaí also made an impassioned plea for people to look out for one another on the roads, as well as those more vulnerable.
“We urge all motorists to act responsibly this festive season and always on the roads. We will have extra checkpoints and patrols in operation over the Christmas/New Year period. We ask all motorists to slow down, to wear a seatbelt and not to use/hold a mobile phone while driving. Never get behind the wheel of any vehicle while under the influence of alcohol/drugs. If you are socialising, please arrange a lift home in advance or get a taxi. Don’t take unnecessary risks on the roads.”
