Donegal’s weather warning upgraded to status orange

MET ÉIREANN has upgraded its weather warning for Donegal to status orange amid fears of severe gusts.

This morning the weather authority had the county at status yellow but that has now been escalated as Storm Barra moves in.

According to Met Éireann, people in Donegal can expect north westerly winds which will reach mean speeds of 65 to 80 km/h with severe or damaging gusts of 100 to 130 km/h, with localised stronger winds likely.

Due to a combination of high waves, storm surge and high tide, coastal flooding is expected. Disruption to power and travel are likely, said a Met Éireann spokesperson.

The warning, issued earlier today, is valid from 2am tomorrow until 2pm.
