THE woman who died in Friday’s horrific road collision at Quigley’s Point has been remembered as a ‘live wire’ with a ‘bubbly personality’ at her Requiem Mass earlier today.
Greencastle’s Donna McDermott, aged in her 30s, was the fifth person to die on the county’s roads in just 13 days.
Ms McDermott died when the car in which she was a back-seat passenger, collided with another vehicle on Friday night, September 6.
Requiem Mass took place this morning, Wednesday, September 11 in St Mary’s Church, Ballybrack at 11am followed by interment in Ballybrack Graveyard.
At her Rquiem Mass, Fr Colm O’Doherty said it was impossible to find the right words to say.
“From now on, so many lives will be changed forever.
“The fact that Donna was so young makes it even more painful for those that are here today,” he said.
Attending the scene of the collision in the early hours of Saturday morning, Fr O’Doherty recalled a very moving moment.
“When I knelt down beside Donna to say a prayer and to give a blessing, the members of the emergency services, many of whom were from the local station and knew Donna well, formed a circle around us and joined with me in prayer.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank them all for their kindness.
“That little moment, in the midst of a tragedy, showed how special this community is,” he said.
