Donegal 1-7 Meath 0-12
Donegal’s dreams of reaching the All-Ireland Senior Ladies Final were dashed by Meath in a tense semi-final at Croke Park today.
The sides were level at two points apiece after the first quarter but Donegal then pushed ahead when Niamh McLaughlin scored a point and a penalty.
Orlagh Lally hit back with a point but Donegal were 1-3 to 0-3 ahead at the end of a tactical first half.
The break seemed to inspire Meath and they hit six points on the trot in the 12 minutes after the restart.
Donegal didn’t panic and two scores from Yvonne Bonner and a good effort from Katy Herron had the sides level by the 48th minute.
Emma Duggan pushed Meath back in front and Karen Guthrie had a great goal chance for Donegal but Monica McGuirk pulled off a good save.
Guthrie made it a one-point game with a free and Donegal squeezed right up on their opponents after that.
Meath were under severe pressure near their own goal but managed to break out and Duggan landed the insurance score, as Donegal’s season came to a devastating conclusion.
