Donegal’s cohesion to trump Galway’s attacking talent

On Sunday, Pádraic Joyce will aim to do something he could never quite manage as a player and that is defeat Donegal in championship football.

Joyce is regarded as one of the great players of his generation and led Galway to two All-Ireland titles.

However, in three Championship contests (two quarter-finals in 2003 and qualifier in 2009) with Donegal as a player, he never managed to come out on the right side.

On each of those occasions, Galway went into the game as the fancied team with the silkier forwards but Donegal were more than a match. Hopefully that is a good omen for this Sunday.
