Fine Gael’s Noel McBride, Sinn Fein’s Gary Doherty, Fianna Fail candidate Ian Molloy and Labour’s Siobhan McLaughlin as well as a host of independent candidates such as Frank McBrearty Jnr and John Campbell are among a number of confirmed guests at the Donegal Youth Council Pre-Election Youth Matters event tomorrow in the Regional Cultural Centre.
The event, which is being co-ordinated by Youth Councillors and is an open invite to to all Donegal County Council election hopefuls, will offer potential election candidates the opportunity to both hear about issues in each region of the county that young people are passionate about, and will also hold roundtable discussions about a number of key youth issues such as health and wellbeing, bullying, youth facilities and education.
Ahead of Donegal County Council Elections on 23rd May Donegal Youth Councillors have also come together with partners WIMPS TV to script, film and present their Donegal Youth Council “Youth Manisfesto” – a video focusing on 5 key issues they want local politicians to really take notice of as they seek to represent the people of Donegal.
The Youth Council want every candidate who is running for election to Donegal County Council to see this video so they can be better informed about the issues young people feel most passionate about. Donegal Youth Council is funded and supported by Donegal County Council, HSE Health Promotion and the Department of Children and Youth Affairs and aims to provide young people with opportunities to identify, prioritise and work on topics and projects which have been identified by the wider youth population of the county and also to provide young people with opportunities to have their voice heard by being involved in the development of local services and policies which affect them.
