DONEGAL assistant manager Rory Gallagher says that Tyrone are still Ulster’s benchmark ahead of this weekend’s Ulster semi-final between the counties at St Tiernach’s Park, Clones (Saturday, throw-in 4.30pm).
Tyrone shared a duopoly in Ulster with Armagh from 1999 to last year, when Donegal broke the mould finally. In that time, Tyrone took the Anglo Celt five times and also won three All-Irelands.
It’s an enviable record – and Gallagher says that the Tyrone model remains the ambition for teams like Donegal, whose title as Ulster kings goes on the line tomorrow in Clones.
“There is no doubt that when myself and Jim (McGuinness) were playing Tyrone were a team we looked at enviously,” said Gallagher.
