Donegal up against it but have fighting chance

DONEGAL go into today’s Group 4 encounter with Derry as underdogs, but with a fighting chance.

That’s not something that would have been said on May 2 when the draw for the All-Ireland Series was made but a few factors have changed since then.

Derry went on to be crowned Ulster champions but they haven’t had a straight-forward month.

Donegal’s constant stream of demoralising news also came to a halt in Ennis when the team pulled off a good five-point win over Clare after a sloppy first half.

The Oak Leaf county remain as a contender for the All-Ireland, while it is probably a safe bet that Sam Maguire won’t reside in Donegal over the winter months.

However, that doesn’t mean that Aidan O’Rourke and his team can’t ask serious questions of their neighbours today.
