IT’S a huge weekend ahead for the Donegal Under-14 Girls as they make the trip to Carrigallen in Leitrim to face Offaly in the All-Ireland Silver final on Saturday (throw-in 2pm).
The side is managed by Gaeil Fhanáda man Aidan McAteer who boasts a large back room team including Kieran Gallagher (Glenswilly), Joe Friel (Cloughaneely), Maxi Curran (Downings), Peter McHugh (Ardara) and Seamus McAteer (Gaeil Fhánada) among those.
In the semi-final, Donegal took a great win over Clare, having been 1-6 to 1-1 down at half-time with a goal from Dungloe’s Rachel Wallace reducing the deficit. Having already lost twice to the Banner side in friendlies, they looked in trouble.
But they produced a late comeback to take it to extra-time where Sean MacCumhaill’s clubwoman Kyra Gavigan got the all-important goal to put them ahead and they kicked on from there.
“We had played them down in the Dome in Connacht in a friendly and we lost both matches,” boss McAteer said.
