IT’S been a great few days of celebrations for the Donegal senior football team but the attention is now switching towards the All-Ireland Series and Aaron Doherty says the team will give it ‘a good go’.
Donegal claimed their 12th Anglo Celt Cup last Saturday in Clones and the players were able to relax and soak in the victory over the weekend.
However, there are no longer big gaps after the provincial championships conclude and Donegal are back to the training field now as they prepare for the All-Ireland Group Stages.
Donegal are in Group 1 and will begin against Tyrone on Saturday, May 24. The match will take place at MacCumhaill Park at 7pm and will be shown live behind the paywall on GAA+.
Jim McGuinness’s team will then be away to Cavan in Kingspan Breffni Park on the June Bank Holiday weekend.
There will then be a break before Donegal face Mayo on neutral ground on June 14/15.
Donegal have not received any information on where that game will take place but it definitely will not be in Sligo as Markievicz Park is currently closed.
It is a tough group and after playing four Ulster teams during the provincial championship, Donegal will now have to contend with another two.
That will present a challenge but Doherty says you have to expect tough games regardless at this stage of the season.
“We always seem to meet these Ulster teams.
“We will put the head down again and we will give a good go at it and see where we go.
“It’s a tough group but you’re always going to get that.
“It’s the All-Ireland Series now and there are going to be tough games no matter where you go.
“We just have to prepare for every game now one at a time and see where it takes us.”
