Donegal to ‘shade it’ – Canavan

BY RYAN FERRY

PETER Canavan feels the All-Ireland Final is well set up for Kerry but he’s predicting a narrow Donegal victory.

Kerry found themselves under pressure from their own supporters when they lost to Meath in the group stages.

They have bounced back well from that setback and are hungry but the Tyrone legend, who is one of the greatest to ever play the game, feels Donegal have many weapons in their artillery.

“It’s going to be very well set up for Kerry,” said Canavan who was a popular guest at Glenswilly GAA’s Up for the Match.

“It was well set up for them against Armagh because nobody gave them a chance.

“Tyrone beat them in numerous big games in Croke Park, and they were easily motivated for that game.

“Anywhere I have been reading or listening to people, the vast majority of pundits are going to be predicting a Donegal win. That’s fuel for Kerry and for Jack O’Connor so they are definitely a dangerous animal coming into the game.

“But I said from early days that I liked the way Donegal were going about their business. With (Michael) Murphy back they have leaders on the pitch and they have the best manager in the game at the minute.

“The way they played against Meath and finished against Monaghan, I just think they have so many options, and they won’t make the same mistakes that Tyrone did regarding (David) Clifford so for all those reasons, in a tight enough game, I think Donegal will shade it.”
