Donegal to get six new high-power recharging hubs

SIX new high-power recharging hubs to service the expanding electrical vehicle (EV) fleet across Ireland’s national road network will be installed in Donegal.

An allocation of almost €8 million is being provided to support grants for recharging infrastructure at the selected sites throughout Ireland, with chargers set to be in place by the end of this year.

Welcoming the announcement by the Minister for Transport, Darragh O’Brien, Donegal Minster of State, Charlie McConalogue said: “These new sites will deliver 175 new fast and ultra-fast recharging points, at 53 locations along the national road network, making it quicker and easier for EV drivers to top up on longer journeys. It’s good that six of the 53 locations that will have new EV recharging hubs installed will be in Donegal.”

“The ongoing roll out of high-speed chargers will give assurance to EV drivers that they will have accessible and rapid charging facilities on their journeys while also helping to lower emissions.

2These new local charging points will also be of great benefit for those who may not be able to charge at home,” Minister McConalogue added.

The announcement is part of a wider plan to build a reliable recharging network across the country, with the distance between recharging hubs to be 60km or less.

The six Donegal locations are: Circle K. Laghey, Centra Ballyshannon Service Station, Kavanagh’s SuperValu Ballybofey, Weev Charging Ltd Burt (WN504), Circle K Bridgend and McGettigan’s Applegreen, Lifford.
