DONEGAL performers will be among the talented line-up at Strabane’s first ever Danceathon which will see 12 hours of non-stop dancing through the decades this weekend.
More than 100 participants will showcase their dance skills in St Patrick’s Hall on Saturday, August 31 from noon until midnight, in aid of well known local charities.
A wide range of dance genres will be on display including line dancing, ballroom, tap, ballet, hip hop, Irish dance, salsa, Zumba, Bollywood and contemporary. There will be a strong Finn Valley contingent with the afternoon Zumba session led by Diane Langan’s class from Castlefin while Zara Holmes (Performing Arts Academy), also from Castlefin, will be taking part in the Danceathon which has been organised in association with the recent Spirit of Northern Ireland award winners, M Dancin’.
Local dance schools from Strabane and surrounding areas in Tyrone, Derry and Donegal will also be actively encouraging audience participation with dance workshops, demonstrations and exhibitions as part of the unique ‘Dance Around The Clock’ event which is guaranteed to be an absolute floor filler from start to finish on Saturday.
Charities to benefit from the Danceathon include the Sperrin Room Altnagelvin, Strabane Down Syndrome Support Group, Foyle Hospice, Marie Curie, and it will also be donating to The Koram Centre mental health and well-being service in Strabane.
Paul, Rosemarie and Sarah Jane Mullen of M Dancin’ said: “We are really looking forward to our first ever Danceathon. We hope our Strictly experience over the last 12 years will be of great help in arriving at another professional show.”
Tickets for the Danceathon are currently on sale for £5 (children under 11 go free – accompanied by an adult) which gives admission at any time throughout the day and all dance fans are encouraged to come along from midday on Saturday. Tickets are available through Facebook (Strictly by M Dancin’) or by contacting Strabane Community Project offices, Barrack Street, Tel. 028 7188 3102. The event which promises to be hugely enjoyable, will finish with a social dance from 10.30pm
