The Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny was the venue for the Donegal finals of the large schools sportshall athletics.
Describing the finals as a “high octane and thoroughly enjoyable” event, Donegal Sports Partnership Coordinator, Myles Sweeney said: “It was great to see the return of the county finals after a four-year break due to Covid-19. The quality of the event was exceptional in terms of the talent that’s out there. It’s an event that has been on the calendar since 2015.”
Mr Sweeney continued: “Sportshall athletics is a fundamental movements programme that helps children develop and improve their ability, balance and coordination. It fits so well into the PE curriculum as well, so it is an important programme to deliver. It gives children a fun outing and a fun event in a team setting.”
Thanking the schools that participated, he added: “I’d also like to extend our gratitude to the coaches, the clubs that supported the schools and the SNAs and teachers. It has proved to be an extremely good partnership programme and is a collaboration between Donegal Sports Partnership, Athletics Ireland and Donegal Athletics Board.”
