DONEGAL Sports Partnership has been allocated €169,100 under the Dormant Accounts Fund.

The funding is part of an overall package of €5.1 million announced for Local Sports Partnerships and Active Disability Ireland by the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin, and the Minister of State for Sport, Physical Education and the Gaeltacht, Thomas Byrne.

A total of €115,500 of Donegal Sports Partnership’s allocation has been earmarked for hubs, €30,000 will be spent on equality, diversity and inclusion, €16,600 is going to volunteer supports, with €7,000 allocated to ‘Her Moves’.

Welcoming the allocation, Donegal minister, Charlie McConalogue, said: “Donegal Sports Partnership is an excellent organisation that does a huge amount of work in communities all over the county. Back in March, Donegal Sports Partnership was allocated €437,000 in core funding through Sport Ireland for 2024.”

“This latest round of funding will help Donegal Sports Partnership to keep delivering its wide selection of programmes that promote inclusivity and well-being through sports and physical activities.

“I’m delighted to see that funding is being provided to Donegal Sports Partnership for volunteer supports. The role of the volunteer in our local clubs, groups and organisations is extremely important. Without the selfless work of so many volunteers, clubs, groups and organisations simply would not be able to function. The volunteer supports initiative aims to identify and assist individuals volunteering in disadvantaged communities, or with people with disabilities,” the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine added.

The Dormant Accounts Fund enables unclaimed funds from accounts in credit institutions in Ireland to be used to support the development of persons who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, or those affected by a disability, within the meaning of the Equal Status Act.
