Donegal singer overwhelmed by response to heartfelt song

By Róise Collins

A DONEGAL singer-songwriter has been deeply moved by the overwhelming support for her heartfelt new song written in memory of her late mother.

Anne Biddie wrote the song Missing You, a song about grief, love and memory to help deal with the loss of her mother Helen almost three years ago but she has held back on releasing it until now.

Since its release the song has resonated with many, prompting emotional reactions and messages of gratitude from listeners.

“I sang the song live last Monday night on the Monday Night Sessions show with Jimmy Stafford and Paul McDevitt on Highland Radio.

“Well, I certainly didn’t expect the reaction that I’ve received since that,” Anne said.

Anne has received many lovely comments, well wishes, phone calls and cards sent from people congratulating her and telling her how much the song resonates with them.

She thanked them for their support and shared how she was moved that the deeply personal song touches other people’s hearts too.

“I’ve everybody crying, but in a good way …so I’m told.

“My wee mammy would be delighted,” Anne added.

Anne McConigley, fondly known as Anne Biddie, from Fanad Head has been involved in music from a young age, but it wasn’t until 2011 that she started gigging after the release of her first CD of covers, called Country Music in my Soul.

In 2013, she released her first album of original songs, My Songs to You, showing her skills as a songwriter for the first time.

Three years later, in 2016, she followed up with another original album called Live Life, continuing her partnership with producer Terry McGinty at Valley Studios, Ballybofey, where all her music has been recorded.

Now, Anne is back with her first new release in nearly ten years.

She wrote Missing You in 2022, not long after the loss of her beloved mother, Helen, who had always been a huge influence in Anne’s life and inspired one of her earlier songs, 4ft11.

Anne’s world was shaken again a year later when her father also passed away.

Because of the emotional weight behind the song, it has taken Anne some time to feel ready to share Missing You with the public.

Now, in 2025, she is finally ready to let this deeply personal and heartfelt song be heard.

Missing You is available now to request from all local, national and online radio stations and can be downloaded from iTunes.
